How to Create your Internship Blog
1) Go to blogger.com, sign into your google account, and follow the quick steps on the site to create an internship blog. Please put your first name and the name of your site in the title of your blog so I can easily tell whose blog I'm reading.
2) If you feel inspired, you can customize the appearance of your blog by clicking on Template on the left hand side of the main blogger page, click Customize, and choose among different backgrounds, fonts, colors, etc. Be sure your blog is easy to read: the font needs to be big enough and there should be a strong contrast between the color of the font and of the background.
3) VERY IMPORTANT: On the left hand side of the main blogger.com page:
--Click on Settings
--Under the Basic section, next to Privacy, click on Edit
--Selection No for both questions
--Click on Save
--Scroll down to the very bottom to where it says Permissions
--Next to Blog Readers, click Edit
--Choose Private--Only These Readers, and type in my email address (jctorpey@gmail.com) and the address of any friends you would like to be able to read your blog. Only these people will be able to see your blog when they are logged into their account.
If you don't do this step, your co-workers, mentor, or anyone else could find your blog on the internet, and you (and your mentor) don't want that. See me if you need help with this step.
4) Each week, to write your next blog post, log in to blogger.com and click the orange New Post button. Title each week's post with the week #, and type in the body of the page. You should consider writing your post in Word or a google doc and then pasting into blogger so you don't accidentally lose your work if for some reason the website crashes while you're typing.
5) Photos: To insert a photo, click on the icon of the picture frame located next to Link on the top of the formatting bar, click Choose Files, and upload your images from your computer. You can also upload images from your phone. Again, see me if you need help doing this.
6) VERY IMPORTANT: To make sure you get credit from me for updating your blog, you MUST email me every time you post on your blog and let me know you have completed that week's entry.
OR....to avoid needing to do this every time you post, do this:
--On the main blogger.com page, on the left side, click on "Layout"
--Click on "Add a Gadget"
--Scroll down until you see "Follow by Email"
--Click Save and make sure a dialogue box saying "Email address..." appears on your blog
Now I'll be able to enter my email address and your blog will automatically send me an email every time you publish your weekly post!
